Fieldwork guide
What happens when the audit team is on site
Fieldwork is the middle of a statutory financial statement audit—after planning, before the report. This guide shows how we sequence inventory observation, bank and receivable confirmations, and management interviews for companies in Ishikawa and nearby prefectures.
Inventory observation
We attend the physical count at the year-end date—or a date close enough that roll-forward procedures remain reliable. Expect us to test count sheets, watch cut-off at the dock, and ask about consignments and goods in transit.
Cold storage, multi-shed sites, and night shifts need extra notice. Tell us about them when you request the engagement estimate so travel and overtime sit inside the fee letter rather than as surprises.
A typical fieldwork week
-
Day 1 — Opening and walkthroughs
Meet the finance lead, confirm the open-items list, and walk through cash, sales, and purchase cycles.
-
Days 2–3 — Substantive testing
Sample material balances, inspect invoices and contracts, and follow up on confirmation replies as they arrive.
-
Day 4 — Estimates and disclosures
Review allowance calculations, impairment indicators, related-party matrices, and draft notes.
-
Closing of fieldwork
Share a findings draft with management. Remaining items move to the clearance list before report issuance.
What we ask you to prepare
- Trial balance and general ledger extracts locked to the balance sheet date
- Bank statements and draft confirmation addresses
- Inventory count instructions and prior-year count sheets
- Related-party matrix and loan ledgers
- Draft financial statement notes, even if incomplete
